The HCI Global Glow was a total bust tonight, as you doubtless know if you tried
to check in. The CME earlier today missed the Earth. Tonight was supposed to be
a minor event, but I think somebody read their crystal ball wrong!
I wasted 2.5 hours listening to S0 noise. I must have put out sixty CQ calls.
Wish I had one of those digital voice things to jus tpress the button and let it
get hoarse instead of me!
What did seem odd, at least to me, was the band being divided about the 14.230
Mhz point. Above that, nothing all the way up to, and beyond, 20 Mhz. Below it I
heard Europe and Middle East stations. In fact, I worked Jordan for the first
time on 14.225 Mhz at S8. I heard a CT3 and others.
I finally heard on station on 14.315 at 0056 UTC. He was in Seattle, WA The
signal was from S4-S6. We had several nice exchanges. When I unkeyed the mike at
0102 UTC, he was gone and so was the band.
Sorry I missed those of you who were trying to check in. Please send complaints
to NOAA, space weather division, and Mr. Sol at class-m.com
