An ancient family secret:
1.Find a plastic container big enough to lay largest side of item in flat.
2. Obtain 1 0r 2 gallons of WHITE VINEGAR.
3. Place item in container and cover with white vinegar.
4. Cover with plastic sheet. (not mandatory
5. Let set for 24 hours.
6. Remove and wash with hot water and a fine scotchbright pad.
7. Dry off and be ready with the primer can. If you let it set around it
will rust immediately.
8. If 24 hours does not do it, repeat above.
9. Repeat process on other surfaces of panel or cabinet.
Slow but extremely effective.
The white vinegar dissolves all iron oxide and will not touch the base
metal, also will not discolor metal.
If you can find a product called OSPHO paint the item with it then wash off
with water before applying primer. It etches the surface and prevents rust.
I have salvaged many antique tools and gun parts with this method and it
always works.
Now that you have forced ther secret from me I must hunt you down and
eleminate you.
