If you what to do it quick and fast and cheap go to your swimming pool supply
place or Ace Hardware and get a 2 gallon box of Murratic acid (I believe the
same stuff that is in Naval Jelly), get a big plastic garbage container ( NOT
metal) that is big enough to put your cabinet in. Put the two gallons of acid
in the container fill with water put your cabinet in the container and watch
the rust, most paint and grease disappear. Be very careful not to keep it in to
long and do not put aluminum or cast iron in the pot. Take it out and check it
every so often and wash it off with water If you have forced air use it to dry
the cabinet. If you can put the cabinet in the sun that will help dry it fast
also. . If all the paint does not come off lightly sand those areas. Wait a
couple of days to make sure all the murratic acid has evaporated. If you see a
sight rusting taking plade after it dries don't worry about red oxide primer
will seal it. Put a coat of primer on it do some sanding, more primer if
required and more sanding, more primer and more sanding etc until you have a
nice smooth surface and then apply the paint.
Works for me but be careful with the acid.
