I also picked up those plating supplies and did try it.  I found that it 
is very difficult to get blemish free plating.  People with much more 
plating experience than me tell me it is all about preparing the 
surface.  It must be perfectly clean and lightly etched for the plating 
to have a chance.  My conclusion was that the brush plating kit might be 
suitable for doing small parts with scrupulous care but nothing more 
ambitious than that.  In any case experiment before attempting to work 
on a valuable piece.  Anybody else have plating experience to share?
