Hello
Well, the restoration of the Hallicrafters SX-71 (circa about 1952) is
perhaps 2/3rds finished. All the resistors and capacitors have been
replaced, chassis thoroughly "De-rusted" and a "preliminary" alignment done
prior to a lengthy burn-in. It still has one prolem that needs to be
resolved. Audio is somewhat lower and a little more muffled than I think it
should be (But much better than when it arrived). Anyway, I thought I'd
listen to it for awhile tonight (sans cabinet that still needs work) and see
what bugs might crop up.
Tuning across the 31M band, what was the first English speaking station I
ran across. Why, HCJB on 11960 of course. This on the 60 foot long sloper,
the "S" meter reading about S9+20. (When it arrived the local blockbuster
BCB station just barely brought the s meter to S5).
