Hello everyone,
Want to participate in the county wide emergency drill on April 23rd? Let me
know if you would. Here is the scenario that will be applied.
Frank
A Day Outside Without Repeaters
SCC ARES/RACES Drill
Saturday, April 23, 2005
2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Situation:
There has been a violent earthquake and all city and county ham EOC
locations have been destroyed and are unsafe to occupy. PG&E power is down.
All antenna towers used by the EOCs and weekly nets have fallen and are
unusable. No repeaters are functional.
Objective:
All radio communications is simplex. The objective for each city is to see
how many other cities and county stations they can communicate with via
simplex from the stations they set up at an alternative location/outside.
Some distant cities will have to relay messages to the county through
close-in cities.
Activity:
All city ham EOCs will be moved to an alternative location or outside. Each
city should pick a location that would be a candidate location to move to if
the city ham EOC were destroyed. The same radios can be used, but an antenna
different from the ones used on the weekly nets should be used. The power
supply should be either batteries or a generator. No PG&E power. If
possible, each City should have 2 meter voice, 440 voice and packet
communications.
The County will activate a simplex message net for this exercise using the
output frequency of the W6TI repeater (147.36 simplex) beginning at 1400.
Cities can begin relocating equipment to the alternate location not earlier
that 1200 on April 23. The County Command Repeater on UHF (WB6ZVW/R
442.500(+) PL 100.0) will be used to supervise and answer any questions
about the drill.
Suggestions for the City exercise:
It is suggest that each city do a survey of simplex communications within
their city to their improvised ham EOC station. It is suggested that it
should be noted where a mag mount antenna is necessary for a HT to be
functional.
