Folks,

Thanks for all the incredible support for donating commercial grade radios
for our Rotary Club/N6IJ Mexico Humanitarian telecomm project. Special
thanks to members of the GVARC for routing me to sources of Antenna supplies
(coax). Special thanks also to Jeff Liebermann, Bruce Hawkins, JV Rudnick
and to Eden Communications in Salinas for supplying and transporting
commercial grade radios to us for use in San Vicente, on the Baja Peninsula.
Thanks to Ham Radio Outlet, and in particular HRO Antenna GURU Art Snow,
for helping us out with Coax Connectors, and 12 volt power supplies. Thanks
to Mary NA6E, for donating some great UHF commercial handhelds, MT-500s,
with rapid chargers.

I have learned during this project, of a company, named PIEXX that makes a
computer interface for the Motorola Syntor-X line of radios, that maximizes
versatility of these mid-80s vintage radios. (
http://www.piexx.com/SynDoc/Syndoc.html )
Or http://www.piexx.com/syntorx.pdf These radios are really rugged, and with
the computer interface, a single radio can become a scanner, and can
operate both on ham radio frequencies, and on Public service bands.
They are extremely well documented on the web.
We are considering implementing a dual use radio at N6IJ, as we have been
planning to supply Marina Public Safety, at no cost to them, with public
safety radios for their use, if ever needed at N6IJ. Those in the ARES
community might consider the utility of a single, commercial, type-accepted
radio with both ham VHF capabilities, and VHF public safety capabilities.
In a REAL emergency, the communications flexibility offered by such a radio
might just save lives. My question is, does anyone have experience with the
PIEXX company system, working with Syntor-X radios? How well does it work?
I am also sending a request for anyone who can secure some SYNTOR-X radios,
to do so, and contact me, we will put them to good use in future Mexico
projects. Again, if you want some excitement during the week preceding
Thanksgiving, consider traveling with us to San
Vicente Mexico, and working with the Ensenada Rotary, Marina Rotary, and
local San Vicente Ham operators to install a radio communications network
for their medical communities.

P.S.: Im looking for a Motorola radio key
Tnx, 73 de Pat, AA6EG
