Hi Folks:

K6MI, The Chews Ridge Gang, will be doing field day from Chews Ridge in
Monterey County.
A 5100 ft peak about 1.5 hours from the City of Monterey. We welcome
visitors. Careful, we may put you in the op chair, if you do CW...

To get to us:

Travel on Hwy 1 south slightly past Carmel on the Monterey Peninsula to
Carmel Valley Road. Note your odometer reading, and Turn southeast on
Carmel Valley Road. Enjoy the ride, to the Carmel Valley Village about 12
miles out, and stop for sandwiches, wine, etc at the the Village Market.
About 4.5 miles further, you will get to the Cachagua Road Intersection. Be
sure to stay OFF cachagua road, which would be a right turn. (unless you
really like steep, mountain roads, cliffs, etc... Stay on Carmel Valley road
about another 9-10 miles...I think it is about 27 miles from the Carmel
Valley/Highway 1 intersection. Become very alert for the Tassajara Road
(signpost) turnoff to the south (right turn) just after passing through a
BIG cut through the mountain and begining of a descent. Stay on Tassajara
Road...You might want to avail yourself of the Tassajara-Zen-Buddhist center
a couple of miles up to get into the Zen-Contest mode....or, just come on
up, about another 8 miles and see Mike, WA6O, our ZEN-CW Master (Those of us
old timers at Chews Ridge, only THOUGHT we were masters...Mike showed us how
we are really only Grasshoppers...) who I hope will be cranking Q's at the
Fire Lookout FD station at the top. About a 1/2 mile from the top, you need
to turn left to a gate which should be open, but may have a Sesame
lock....If you come at night, be sure to bring a flashlight. If the lock is
locked, you have two choices...Walk about 15 minutes to the top, or If we
can, I will have the combo written down on a paper nearby. Go 10 paces
north of the gate and look for a rock. The combo will be under the rock.
After passing the gate, go through the road, and at the first opportunity,
turn left go another .1 mile to the Firelookout...If you end up at an
Astronomic observatory, say hi to Ivan, the caretaker, and look to the north
and find the Fire Lookout tower, and head for it...

Glad to see any of you come up....

Pat, AA6EG/K6MI
