Folks,
Just heard of a bad encounter a Salinas ham had with the city of Salinas.
Seems their antenna orndinances are extremely restrictive, and will not
allow antenna structures higher than 6 or 7 feet off the ground. A ham was
forced to take down existing antennas in order to comply. Marina, or for
that matter, any and all central coast cities are at risk this way. I was
able to get an electronic copy of the proposed new antenna ordinance for
Marina, and post it to the net, in order for some Ham Radio Legal Eagles
(ARRL Volunteer Counsels) to review, analyze, and recommend... Phil Kane, a
former FCC attorney, and one of the most experienced in the business, was
able to review it on line, and make recommendations for changes. He said it
could be ripped apart, by any seasoned attorney willing and able to attend
a council meeting, with the ordinance as an agenda item for public hearing.
Since this seems to be one of the biggest challenges facing the future of
ham radio, I would suggest that hams get together from each city and or
county, and obtain a an electronic copy of ordinaces affecting antenna
installations. There should then be created, a place for all ordinances to
be posted on the net for review and discussion. Doing so would give them
quick access to ARRL Volunteer Counsels, for their review and analysis.
Perhaps a place on the ARRL Pacific Division, or Santa Clara Valley Section
website could be created for delivery and posting of active antenna
ordinances, and/or CC&R agreements...
What say?
