Folks,
Below is a message from one of the Mexican ham radio operators support team
that will be assisting with a real medical humnitarian aid mission in Baja
Mexico. This real evolution will commence 23 May and wind up 27 May.
(Memorial Day Weekend) We are looking for support from amateur groups who
have, or can set up, hospital-based HF systems to allow HF voice, HF PSK 31,
and I-link hybrid internet connections via UHF. In the Central Coast, the
WA6HHQ repeater is well suited for the I-link setup. We have MDs in
Monterey, that are part of the Core Team of MDs that will deploy to San
Vicente, and Erindada, Mexico through the Memorial Day Weekend. The
distinct possibility exists, that there will be NEEDED communication beteen
MDs deployed and working at these extremely isolated medical clinics and
their California Stationed MD counterparts. Even if in this particular
instance nothing comes up needing Comms, it is desired to exercise the
system to analyze any weak points. We want the team of MDs on the scene in
Baja to actually speak with MDs located at various hospitals in Central
California, especially with their MD colleague-teammates, who are in
Monterey.
This humanitarian mission will be done with, or without ham radio, within or
without ARES/RACES...If ARES/RACES folks want to participate, they are very
welcome. Just let me know who you are, get any required approvals from
your senior ARES officials, and tell me what you want to offer in
participation. It is a great opportunity to shine.
We especially want seasoned ops in HF, and in PSK 31. If you are located in
various Central California Areas, outside of Monterey, such as Santa Cruz,
Watsonville, Morgan Hill, Salinas, or San Jose, and have, or can create
Hospital based setups please feel especially welcome to participate. An
ideal Hospital setup would include:
HF SSB Radio
Antenna Systems for 80 40 and 20 meters
PSK-31 capability
UHF Radio with Touch Tone Mic capable of I-Link Communications
Internet Capability with Sound Card equipped computer and Mic/Speaker.
Any subset of the above equipment is still welcome to participate.
I am very interested to know if existing Hospital Ham Stations have the
above capabilites, and, if not, if they could be implemented. If
implementation is money or equipment limited, please let me know, and we
will see if needed components can be acquired for those interested.
Since I cannot get messages into MOBIE reflector directly, please forward
this to [email protected], and if you have difficulties, Contact
Ed, the Mobie Sysop, or Rick Lagerstrom, KN6FR (831) 394-2347 to do so. In
the meantime, check into the below mentioned net on 40 meters to learn
more...
