Just a guess. But could it be to hold some tape waiting to be loaded into a TD? Does it have a TD (or equivalent?)

We have a T 37H in a desk at the AWA Museum. There is a "roll-top" that covers the keyboard and can be locked, to prevent unauthorized use. The unit is connected to I-Telex.

Ours has a horizontal slit cut in the wood to the right of the keyboard.

I notice that the one for sale in the Netherlands has the same slit (picture 3)

Does anyone know the purpose of that slit?

Thanks,

I've decided to let go of my T-37 in a wooden tabletop cabinet ... so I've listed it on the Dutch 'Marktplaats' site

Here's the link:

I'm not bidding on it, but it looks like a nice machine. The wooden case is cute. Does the cover over the keyboard lock with that key, or is that the key to open the top? Also, is the cover over the keyboard like the cover on a roll-top-desk, or is it rigid, or is it missing? Note that the Free University of Amsterdam has, or used to have, a nice computing museum. They might be interested. They have a flexowriter, some Teletypes, and a fair number of antique computers. This would not be a bad fit there.
