One of my first jobs was as a.police tafoo operator. We had a repeater for the fire alarm boxers. It had a Pell and a.tape register. I think the register was.a punch. Probably made by Gamewell, the old police telephone boxes were Gamewell. We had a directory of bell codes vs locations. The locations were put on the air as "Code 8" Assist the fire department. Really a warning that there would be vehicles with sirens going. The fire boxes were discontinued when we had a spate of street people going down the street pulling every box they came to. The police call boxes were useful in relieving radio traffic. They may still be in use.Sent from my Galaxy
