One of my first jobs was as a.police tafoo operator.   We had a repeater for the fire alarm boxers.  It had a Pell and a.tape register.  I think the register was.a punch.  Probably made by Gamewell,  the old police telephone boxes were Gamewell. We had a directory of bell codes vs locations.   The locations were put on the air as "Code 8"  Assist the fire department.  Really a warning that there would be vehicles with sirens going.  The fire boxes were discontinued when we had a spate of street people going down the street pulling every box they came to.  The police call boxes were useful in relieving radio traffic.  They may still be in use.

I knew I had seen it somewhere before - used in the M15 and M28 projection units.

Tom T says this eBay strip printer was used to print fire alarm locations - Horni Signal made traffic light and fire alarm systems.

There's always something interesting turning up in teletypery
