I must have had more "Enlightened" typing classes and school.
Our school for freshman year 1st semester would have you rotate thru
ALL the elective classes.
That first semester you spent a few days in EVERY elective class to
help you decide which you would like to take for a full semester
Homemaking, Sewing, Woodshop, Metalshop, Printing, Photography the
list goes on there were like 20+
classes and Typing was one of them. It was heavily stressed in all
classes they were open to everyone.
All 7 of the ones I mentioned above I took as 1 semester electives
over the 4 years in High School.
Anyhow, the Typing class has served me well for over 45+ years.

Count it as a somewhat warped bit of proto-feminism. I persisted in the class because I was also taking "Computer Math", a new course that used a pair of Teletype 33ASR to access an early commercial timesharing system (the machine had a 24-bit word), and it was obvious that being able to touch type instead of hunt and peck would serve me well.
