Fuse follow up
I wanted to follow up with thanks for suggestions on and off the list and report back on the solution I arrived at. The issue was the model 33 reader power pack was igniting its 3/4A fast blow fuse on startup. This is board powers the reader solenoid magnet, so the tape wouldn't advance. The solution was to reform the power pack capacitor C1 in the machine by powering it on a variac with gradually increasing voltage over the course of a day or so. I tested C1 for leakage current on a bench supply I had and it was below 0.01mA at 30VDC (albeit well below the operating voltage of the capacitor). I’ve been able to power the machine up consistently without burning out the fuse now.
Line feed mechanics
The machine is cleaning up nicely. I have all of the major parts working except for intermittent line feed issues. The same issue comes up from time to time in the GreenKey archives, with several solutions pointing to the state of the platen and friction feed roller. However, I can verify in my case that the platen isn’t advancing properly due to the (in)action of the back detent pawl (181040) and possibly the position of the front pawl. I’ve adjusted the positions and stops and seem to have it working better, but I need to test it more extensively.
