Someone on this list recently said he had a bunch of UART ICs that he
has no plans to use, so maybe he will tell us who he is.

You can start with the RTTY/RTTY Journal articles that are archived
somewhere on the web. One place is w7ay.net/chen/Others/RJ/index.html

I see that 1974 March issue vol 22 no 4 Irv Hoff has an article about
the UART and some of its uses. And then 1974 May/June issue v 22 no 5
piece by WB2TCC and something in the next issue July/August, and more
in the September issue that year, then Feb 1975, Then April 1975, well
you get the idea - look at the indexes starting with index 3 and search
for UART and you'll find all kinds of things to do with those interesting
ICs. Also of course get the manufacturer data sheets for some of
the parts. One such part is AY-5-1013.

Before there were UARTs some of us made speed converters using more
ordinary small scale ICs. One that I designed and then friend WA6JYJ
(now W7JYJ) improved a bit was written up in Ham Radio magazine,
December 1971. If you can't find that on the web somewhere I can send
you a copy.
