Sounds like this came from another ham, 
rather than directly from a commercial 
disposal ...  most expeditious way to turn 
off something is to cut the wires !!

One way it might have been set up is that 
the first switch closes, and latches, on the 
FIGS code; then the second switch, in series, 
closes on either S or J (whichever bell code 
is used) completing the circuit to the bell ... 
Then they unlatch on the next character so 
the bell circuit is again open.

Two ways come to mind: 

1] with printer in the loop, key each character 
and see which one activates the code bar in 
that slot ... 

2] inspect the tines on the codebar in slot 29 
and see how it is coded ... that's the harder 
way, as you would need to remove the stuntbox 
to see the front tines of the codebar, most 
likely.
