Before ripping everything out, it could be something really simple. For about a week years ago, I was tracing down every path on one of my 19s, trying to figure out why in the heck the keyboard was not working. Finally traced it down to a simple wire… someone over the years tried a repair and replaced that one wire with an aluminum one. As you could imagine, that didn’t work so well with the coppers they soldered it to.

There could even be a short somewhere... some insullation may have worn away and is making contact with the frame, sending it to ground in a less direct route with high resistance - who knows.

Just keep at it. The more authentic the insides are, the cooler it is to marvel how the thing works in the first place, in my honest opinion :) .
