[GreenKeys] Chadless tape and a M14 Transmitter-Distributor

I have a model 14 typing reperforator that produces chadless perforated
tape. It all appears to be working normally but when the tape is read by
the 14 XD on my son's model 19 it produces totally garbled data. The 14
XD works properly with the perforated tape punched by the 19. It also
reads the chadless tape flawlessly upside down and backwards--even
though that isn't useful. 

Apparently different shims are required on the XD retaining lid plate
for chadless tape. I messed with lots of different spacings--regular
tape always works and chadless tape never works. 

Any tricks, ideas, or suggestions?
