The bottom line on Range is how square your waveform 
is for the bits arriving at the selector magnet ...  if you 
have a slow rise/fall time, your range will be narrow because 
the selector magnet does not pull in until later in the square 
wave ...  a holding magnet should have much better range 
than a pulling magnet, for what should be obvious reasons !
