[GreenKeys] RTTY tuning display

Can someone explain the theory behind the scope display for tuning RTTY?I'm talking about the two ellipses at right angles.I understand making Lissajous patterns using X and Y inputs on a scope.Is this being done with a dual trace scope?Maybe one beam drawing an ellipse for Mark and the other drawing an ellipse for Space?
