Yeah, I failed to mention that part since it has been posted before in 
conjunction with the shoe string.  You're talking a ring crimp terminal 
as opposed to forked or spade.

I think one end of some of these lanyards might even work as one end, 
thus only requiring one ring terminal on the other.  IIRC it's the same 
metal ring at each end.

I don't think the wire rope on the 28 fails as often, or at least 
wouldn't be susceptible to dry rot etc.  At least I've never seen a wire 
rope failure on a 28, but I can see that's possible due to wear like any 
wire rope.  When you start to see whiskers, it's time to change.
