Steve,
Please, please, please… before twisting stuff off, have a look at the parts diagram, to see how it all goes together (and I really mean this kindly). Parts are becoming harder to come by and every part has a reason… even skilled-machined parts may cause things not to work properly.
That said, do you have a photo of what you broke?
