Watch out about rubber gloves. They are permeable by many
chemicals, for instance mercury compounds. Nitrile is better but
you must look up what kind of gloves are suitable and safe for
various substances.
BTW, I have reached the age where I take a lot of
prescription drugs. I am careful to look each up and sometimes
discuss them with the pharmacist. My doctor is careful but I have
still had to stop or switch meds due to side effects.
Probably the most dangerous stuff in your house is under the
kitchen sink. Ammonia and bleach are two of the most dangerous see:

Of course there is also lye or sodium hydroxide. Just be
careful of it. Oh, golly, when I was a little kid I spent my
summers in the country. I knew some farm kids. One family was
accident prone, kid shot his toe off climbing over a fence with a
rifle, same family a kid drank drain cleaner. I think he
survived. Anyway, watch out for the monsters under the sink.
