Jesse,
As the song goes:
“That's nice work if you can get it.
And you can get it if you try ..”
I do agree. I once got two M-28’s and a couple of MITE’s for free. You/we just have to be patient and get the word out there among the community.
It would help if we knew where you are located. Keep your car gas tank well filled up.

Glass TTTY - just say no! In jest - That’s a fine way to get involved. You are likely to very much enjoy having a real heavy metal machine though. It is a whole different experience. Of curse then you’l want a typing reperforator, a T/D, and then a switch patch panel and will be looking for a 60 pound loop supply with purple flickering mercury vapor rectifiers. … oh my!
When I was young, a fellow in my home town had a genuine printing press - five feet tall, humming motor, strong black cast levers and wheels moving almost silently with well-oiled ease, the smell of printers ink. He told me that once you had smelled printers ink, you were likely to be addicted. Weight of such a press: maybe 400 pounds. Weight of a Model 15: maybe 100 pounds (?). I suggest you start with a Model 15!
I am currently working on sewing machines from the 30’s and 40’s. Cast iron. After resurrection, flawless performance. These things last a century or more, even with regular use. Same with Model 15’s and the like. (MY Model 15 and such are in storage I cannot get to just now.)
Go for it!
