Interesting.  You do save a motor and therefore weight and power consumption.  Also less space used.  I would suspect no cost savings, since it would be a special.  I see it has a governed motor.  The detail isn't very good, but the typing unit connector looks a little strange.

Wonder what the cabinet looked like.  Maybe it went into an apparatus cabinet?
