apparently not true ... 

at one point, Signal Corp technical manual 
numbers were converted from TM 11-nnnn 
to TM 11-[FSN]-type (op, parts, etc.) 



as you can see above, there are TM 11-5815- 
for various equipment.   The one cited at the top 
happens to be a Teletype Model 40 ...

stamped numbers in the middle are 690 or 890, 
but I got no hits on either.
