[GreenKeys] TD operation on 28ASR

When at Bad Abling, 320th ASA Bn in 1963, all of our 28 ASRs were set up to Receive on the printer and cut a tape on the Aux re-perf for one incomming circuit. The TD was on another Circuit for outbound traffic, and the KB was used to cut a MSG tape for outgoing traffic while the others were busy. Fun to cut a tape with NO printer and get it right!!!!

We had three ASRs, one for each circuit, one to Frankfort, one to Baumholder, and one to the States. As we were a Terminating Station we got busy sometimes keeping up with Traffic. The guys at Frankfort were really busy as they were a NCS for a LOT of circuits all over Euerope!! Most of that was AUTODIN so very little manual interface needed.

Of course then there was my RTTY Circuits with a AN/GRC-26D, T-368 Tsx R-390A Rx and Klienschmidt printers.....................................

If you wanted to use the keyboard and TD at the same time they would have to be on separate circuits. So then you'd need a way to change circuits if there was need to send via TD on one circuit or the other. And then what about the keyboard changing between circuits? Now let's throw in the aux/domed reperf. If you get it figured out Nick let us know.

That's one reason I liked the Kleinschmidt AN/FGC-25 machines. They had a way to handle all those variations.

Looking at schematics in preparation for my rewiring job, I was surprised to see that the TD clutch can not be activated in K mode, only in KT and T.
Why is that? It makes sense to me that normal conversation would take place in K mode with no need to perf a tape. But you might like to run a tape through the TD without having to switch from K to KT.
What do you think? What am I missing?
    Cheers
    Nick
