The Model 33 ASR was originally a model 33 KSR with bolted-on tape reader and tape punch, each in its own bolted on extension to the plastic case.  This didn't work as well as Teletype Corp hoped, and in later production models, they made a small KSR bottom pan and a big ASR bottom pan, plus big and small ABS plastic covers for the ASR and KSR versions.  Bolt-together tinkertoy was not really durable enough.
