That song caused a lot of clatter in news rooms in  1963.   The "whoop 
whoop" sound of the "wobbleboard" rythum instrument came through the 
audio processing chain of most AM radio stations as the sound of someone 
plunging a toilet.  In those times, it got the attention of kids 
listening as well as fuddie duddie parents. News stories about the 
perceived soundtriggered efforts to ban it, but  made the record popular 
beyond all expectations.  Radio stations were deluged with requests  to 
play it, and  record stores were delighted with brisk sales.
