A week or two ago, I posted about shining up heavy metal with some full synthetic 5w-40 motor oil… now have some photos with the results :) . If anyone remembers seeing the 14TD at Xenia - I remember one Greenkeyer saying it looked like it needed some TLC… well yeah, it does ;p … but anyhow, three photos attached. One is of the top cover, after the 5w-40 treatment. The second is of the metal on the 14TD unit itself that I haven’t treated yet - really representative of what the top cover looked like when I got it… and third is of my 19 with a treatment of full synthetic. You can see how the cover of the 14TD is so much improved and when you touch it, you can’t really feel anything on it ;p (you can see some paint flakes on the paper towel below ‘cause the paint was already doing that prior to treatment)! Now, I’m not sure how an oil treatment would go on heavy metal of other colors - so milage may vary… but overall, the results - on black, at least, are very positive :) (it shines ;p !)~

If the case is in real bad shape, a heavy coating will do with re-wipes every day or two, as needed. I wish I took pictures of the before and after results (actually, I might have with one - will have to do some digging), but the full synthetic not only cleans - the heavy metal soaks it up like crazy(!), rejuvenating the paint/metal... and boy does it look nice ;D ! The only downside is if you get the oil onto the metal placards (such as the on/off placard labels, the teletype placard, etc.), the oil will turn the white into a golden brown, so you have to watch out for that… but even then, it looks nice that way ;p . Recently on one the heavy metals, it looks as if the white is returning to the placards, so try that trick on your own placards at your own risk ;p . Anywho, seems to have worked great so far and will continue to try this trick as I can :) … and will also send photos as I find them ;o . Cheers ^_^ ~
