More like all their management came up through the ranks
and knew what a Teletype machine is and how it works.
As opposed to:
HR: This is Smedley. He's your new manager.
ME: What department did he come from?
HR: Shipping!
ME: Shipping? - what does he know about million-dollar
computer sites, customer satisfaction, hardware/software?
HR: I dunno - probably nothing - but that doesn't matter.
ME: And "that doesn't matter" B-E-C-A-U-S-E ???
HR: Because he's been through our management school!
ME: Isn't that like a 10-day course over 2 weeks?
HR: Yes!
ME: And so he's now qualified, after 10 days, to oversee
10 high-end field engineers supporting $20M worth of
business - but he has NO IDEA WHAT-SO-EVER of what we do?
HR: That's RIGHT!
ME: Thanx for the talk. I think I'm set.
HR: Come on by anytime!
