[GreenKeys] Model 28 ASR Info

About a year ago I disassembled a 28ASR almost completely, and took the top off as well, and was able to get it up the stairs by myself. Disassembly/reassembly is not that hard. I wish I had weighed the parts like Clay did. Good idea. Next time I will do that.
Recently I got a hand truck that is designed for stairs. It has three wheels one each end that rotate on the axle. This was much easier and I took an unassembled 28ASR up the stairs with a helper. There is good and bad here however. With a normal hand truck you have to really work hard to get it up each stair, but then you can relax at each stair. With this new hand tuck each stair is easier but you can’t relax much - you need to keep the tension up and can’t relax until you are at the top. While this new hand truck is my
“Go-to” to choice, I would not want to use it alone without a helper
The problem with the 28ASR is it’s size as much, if not more-so, than it’s weight. The thing is big and does not fit well on a hand truck.
I’m curious how one could use a refrigerator hand truck because the platform to rest things on is rather small. I would think it works well with a refrigerator with the sharp corner edge, but not so good with a Teletype.

The main base stand is 66 lbs, base panel 15lbs, keyboard base is 42lbs, TU 20lbs (without paper roll), Reader 15lbs, LESU with power cord is 12lbs, call control unit 5lbs, main cover (with acoustic foam removed) 27lbs, Lid / cover 10lbs, typing reperf 9lbs. Total 221lbs. It’s a lot easier to move disassembled. I was able to bring it up two flights of stairs by myself. I lifted the main base on end one step at a time. While I had it apart I installed casters that I bought from Home Depot. The feet already had threaded holes. I had to cut the threaded shafts on the casters down to about ½ inch. I don’t know if the 28 ASR can be disassembled as far as the 35, but if you have a difficult move that’s the way to do it.

I had to pause a couple times to get it back on course, but it? was easy. The empty shell is not terribly heavy, it's size is the main issue.? Being safe and avoiding injury is paramount,? plan well, take your time. ? If there are turns or intermediate landings on the stairway, that may preclude this method.?? The complete dismantling also gave an excellent chance to install casters on it and? clean everything.?

Even when you take everything out that you can, the size of the cabinet teetering on a hand truck is very problematic. ?Going up stairs alone is near impossible in my opinion. ??
