When I had to move my 35 ASR up stairs I was dismantling it for a thorough
cleaning anyway. Before I reassembled it I weighed each component. The
main base stand is 66 lbs, base panel 15lbs, keyboard base is 42lbs, TU
20lbs (without paper roll), Reader 15lbs, LESU with power cord is 12lbs,
call control unit 5lbs, main cover (with acoustic foam removed) 27lbs, Lid /
cover 10lbs, typing reperf 9lbs. Total 221lbs. Its a lot easier to move
disassembled. I was able to bring it up two flights of stairs by myself.
I lifted the main base on end one step at a time. While I had it apart I
installed casters that I bought from Home Depot. The feet already had
threaded holes. I had to cut the threaded shafts on the casters down to
about ½ inch. I dont know if the 28 ASR can be disassembled as far as
the 35, but if you have a difficult move thats the way to do it.

I moved the totally empty cabinet with the lid removed up a stairway? by
padding the steps and using a come-along to pull it,? sliding it up on it's
side. I had to pause a couple times to get it back on course, but it? was
easy. The empty shell is not terribly heavy, it's size is the main issue.?
Being safe and avoiding injury is paramount,? plan well, take your time. ?
If there are turns or intermediate landings on the stairway, that may
preclude this method.?? The complete dismantling also gave an excellent
chance to install casters on it and? clean everything.?

I second what everyone has said about the ASR. It is a beast. I have done it
once alone down the stairs and that was scary. Even when you take everything
out that you can, the size of the cabinet teetering on a hand truck is very
problematic. ?Going up stairs alone is near impossible in my opinion. ??

I have a couple of M33?s but now would like to get a 28 ASR. I have a couple
of questions:
1. How difficult is it to load into the back of an SUV on its back?
2. Is it possible to disassemble it enough so that one old person can get it
up to the second story? (or how much does the base cabinet weigh by itself?)
If I can?t manhandle it by myself, then I guess I?ll just stick with my
M33?s.
Thanks,
