Even Arnold Swartzenegger would be very hard pressed to move an empty ASR cabinet
up or down stairs alone.
When I gave my 28ASR away, I was fortunate to have a neighbor who had a ‘refrigerator hand truck’ with heavy-duty wheels and a heavy strap.
Even with that, it was a great chore getting it up a straight flight of stairs. Going one step at a time, it took us about 10 minutes to go up 12 steps to the landing with the door to the garage.
Then we had to do some turning to be facing out into the garage. That was just one step and then the rig was on the garage floor.
If there is ever a “next time”, I will call some ‘pros’!!
Seriously, have at least two to help you make this move. Or one other person in excellent health.
No, not me. I’m 80 and had hernia surgery a few months back.
Good luck!!
73,

You can remove various pieces of it like the typing unit, keyboard, punch(es) etc. which greatly helps to reduce the overall weight, but the cabinet itself will still be awkward and weighty. I moved mine with a friend. We removed all that could be easily removed from the cabinet and it still definitely needed both of us to muscle it into my mini van and then down the cellar stairs at home.
