[GreenKeys] Model 28 ASR Info

I do not have the ASR (someday) but I have the KSR which is a real beast. Fortunately, my house is a split level, with ground level sliding glass doors going into the Teletype room directly from outside. I borrowed a furniture mover and a very nice, strong and willing 16 year old (at the time) nephew to help me horse that beast inside. I brought it home on it's back from Jack K0TTY place when he lived in Kansas City up by the airport. The next day, he came over and made sure that it survived the trip (which it did in fine order). I had a pickup at the time and it worked out fine. I took my nephew and his friend out for pizza that evening for helping me.
Best,
Joe

The 28ASR is 260 lbs total - you definitely need a buddy. It is not too difficult to tip into and out of an SUV -  figure you are each lifting 1/4 of that.
Even if you remove all the insides and the dome lid, etc. there is plenty of steel left. Maybe still 80-100 lbs?
See http://www.navy-radio.com/tty/28asr/rest4/1-29.jpgI have only had to move mine downstairs, not up. It wasn't hard going down by myself with a hand truck.
Good luck!

A 28ASR is a bit of beast to try to move yourself, and I would say it
isn't possible to do it alone.  You can remove various pieces of it like
the typing unit, keyboard, punch(es) etc. which greatly helps to reduce
the overall weight, but the cabinet itself will still be awkward and
weighty.  I moved mine with a friend.  We removed all that could be
easily removed from the cabinet and it still definitely needed both of
us to muscle it into my mini van and then down the cellar stairs at home.

FWIW, YMMV.
