So far as I know W.U. always used gummed tape. Certainly for telegrams.
Non-gummed tape was used for things like TWX switchboards and anywhere
else that there was no need to stick the tape down.
BTW someone commented on the width of tape. Which was originally 3/8",
and I've read that some W.U. employee won a big suggestion award for
suggesting they change to 5/16" So printers with both widths of tape
guides are out there.
