Hi Dave,

The punch is enabled / disabled by a lever at the front that moves left 
and right.

There are 5 Bowden cables that transfer the code data to the punch and a 
6th cable, that when enabled releases the clutch to make the punch 
perform one cycle.

The whole mechanism on the museum machine was totally seized up and I 
had to use considerable force to remove the clutch pawls to clean and 
oil them.

Also the on/off lever on it was bent as it protrudes from the front and 
is vulnerable and it wouldn't trip the clutch  .  I'll take some photos 
for you tomorrow at the museum.
