[GreenKeys] Model 42 ASR paper tape unit questions

Does anyone have one of these? Thanks to Don House I have one that was used
in US Navy service but have a few questions. Photos at

1) Is there a chad box for the tabletop unit? I see a drawing of the
pedestal unit with a chad box.
2) What's the small compartment to the left of the tape reader for? There
are some photos that show it has a cover (which mine is missing) but I have
no clue as to what it is for.

Thanks for any help, pointers to manuals, etc.
