I don't have an answer, I was lucky back in the day that all the
equipment I had came from the same source and was all 7.42.
Jim has posted the story of how we got 7.42. WU made some of their own
machines at one time and then there was Kleinschmidt as well. You can
read documents that infer that the government was buying both 7.00 and
7.42 versions of the same models.
