[GreenKeys] What’s this?

I remember when I was just starting out with this hobby - one of the first machines I got was a 28 tape punch. I turned it on and it just punched out tape. I did even not know what a loop was at that point, and did not have a working TU yet. I had not yet met Jack Hart, my eventual mentor (Elmer in ham speak).
I wanted it powered on so that I could try to figure out how it worked and could fix a problem I was observing, but out came tape. A lot of tape I did not know how to stop it. We just can’t afford to waste tape! That is when I partially figured out what the selector magnet did. I also discovered that, in the small set of tools that I was given at the time, I had a spring to hold the selector magnet closed. It was a great learning experience.
This mod might have been useful (I would certainly use it now on that punch), but then maybe I would never have figured out how the tape punch works.

But I have a demo that punches eyeball characters in a tape producing a banner similar to what you see on LED matrix boards. I use the blanks as spaces in my messages. Luckily none of my reperfs have that mod.
