Hi
The old reason for avoiding names of specific outfits on mailing lists was the way various
serach engines handled the reference. Linking the mailing list to a bunch of totally unrelated
“stuff” created issues back in the day.
The search process has improved a bit and people have gotten a bit more used to checking
results. You are a lot less likely to see people pop onto Greenkeys (say) looking for a deal on a
replacement keyboard for their computer ….. (and getting really nasty when one was not
provided).
In some cases the ban was related to simply not wanting to “advertise” various sites or
brands. The reasons for this varied a lot from list to list. Again, not as big a deal these days.
