Something I forgot to mention: some corporations take the attitude that if
something is to be disposed of, then it must be utterly destroyed e.g.
crushed, as otherwise it may still be of value to someone, and that upsets
the bean-counters.
Corporate bods are not like you and me... That said, I was fortunate to
work in a place where I got first dibs on anything about to be thrown out
(mostly computer stuff) and was allowed to go dumpster-diving :-)
I even got a nice 40MHz dual-trace CRO out of it (long story).
