The resistor is really a 22 K (red, red, orange) from what it looks like to me.  A 2.2 K should be red, red, red. Most likely just a bleeder capacitor across the capacitor to bleed off the stored charge when the power is cut off.  It would not make any difference in how the supply acts in normal usage.  It could be cut out and no effect except when the power is cut off  it would hold a charge for a while and be sort of dangerous if you stuck your hands in it.

 

The tape punch on the 19 takes a lot of current.  If you have enough power to make the punch work, the 60 ma the loop takes is not going to be noticed in most cases.

Hi all,

 

Safe to say, I’m not using that little transformer anymore.  I was looking at the bottom and noticed an extra resistor on the capacitor (extra, when comparing it to the actual diagram of the transformer - both attached).  I know a few said that when they tried the little 28 transformer on the 19, they couldn’t get anything out of the tape punch.  Embarrassingly, I admit... even though I’m a ham radio operator, I’m not an electrical engineer - I’m a geographer ;p .  Could this resistor make a slight bit of a difference on making the tape punch punch like it does?  I haven’t measured the component - to make sure it’s a resistor for sure and not an inductor, but it certainly looks like a resistor to me (2.2K ohms).
