Oh good grief, go back and re-read what I wrote. I lamented my lack of
skills to do SMD work, and was wondering why John made those choices in his
design - even suggesting it may be a matter of necessity in that required
parts might just not be available in conventional packages.

Previously, I've had nothing but good things to say about John's original
converter design. It's simple to build and worked perfectly from the moment
I turned on the power.
