Ed's Red is interesting. One of the recommended penetrating
oils for loosening rusted parts is a mixture of Dextron III ATF
and Acetone or Kerosene. It is supposed to be more effective than
any commercially made up material. It would be interesting to see
if this stuff is even better. Its also possible it might work
well as a contact cleaner.
One of the cleaners tested in the ancient Boonton Radio tests
was Lanolin. It was less effective than either synthetic silicon
grease (Lubriplate) or Vaseline. However it was tried alone.
There have been a number of guesses as to what Caig uses in
Deoxit or the old Contactine but the addition of some sort of
agent like phosphoric acid to Ed's Red might be an interesting
experiment.
Thank you so much for posting this Ralph.
