[GreenKeys] TT-4 vs TT-4A

I have an extra original of TM 11-5815-206-35 and did reply but got no response. I also have the -35P but the only thing I can think of where it would be of any value would be if someone gave you a box of parts in the original envelopes and you wanted to see whether any were used on the TT-4A or B.

However, somewhere I found PDF's of the -12,-20P, -34 and -34P-1. The photos in the -34 are totally worthless, but the -34P-1 is of the illustrated type (drawings of assemblies, subassemblies and parts) and might substitute for some of the black blob photos in the -34. From the file dates, I found the PDF's back in 2007 and don't recall where I found them. First guess would be Liberated Manuals. Second would be on Nick's site. If the former, be advised that the search engine doesn't work properly so if you enter TM 11-5818-206, you get an 8 or 10 page listing in no particular order that you have to scan through to see whether what you are looking for is present or not.

On the rumor of all TT-4's having been converted to TT-4A, that's possible, substantiated by the fact that when TM 11-2234 with changes 1, 2 & 3 was replaced by the revised long number version, the new manual does not mention the base model. But if it were done, it most likely was not done by MWO as the only MWO 11-2234 that I found listed was -1 dated 1958 which was to replace transmitter gears in the base and A models. The 1966 MWO list has nothing new under either short or long numbers.

Pete,

I thought someone else might have some input to your question, but since
no one has tried to answer it, I'll give you my thoughts.

Although I worked on a lot of TT-4A, TT-4B, & TT-4C/TG machines (50
years ago), I have never seen an original "TT-4/TG" machine. Rumor has
it that they were never fielded or that all TT-4/TGs that were
manufactured were later converted into TT-4A/TG machines. So no one may
be able to answer your question from experience. Only a close
comparison of the original TM 11-2234 manual with the newer TM
11-5815-206-xx manuals would tell what the differences were.

That being said, I don't think that the differences would be great and
the TM 11-2234 would be better than nothing, especially for someone who
has little or no experience with the Kleinschmidt military line. It
should give you a good start at understanding the TT-4A, just be aware
that TM 11-2234 will not be 100% representative as the machine you have.
(This goes for any manual. It can be hard to keep the manuals up to date
for any product that goes through many manufacturing cycles over many
years.)

Have fun & Good luck!
