What I have for a test setup with a slightly old laptop (Dell C610) is

Format a floppy disk, including system files.  This gives you a minimal
DOS system

Install program RTTY12G which is found on the web

Boot from the floppy disk

When you run that program it turns the computer into a "glass Teletype"
which includes 45.45 baud Baudot code (and other speeds if you wish).

I've also got a version that boots from a CD ROM, but of course with that
you can't write to the disk like you can with a floppy.
