The problem could be brief (milliseconds) interruptions of the audio stream generated by the PC at the receiving (and possibly the sending) end due to audio latency caused by other software loading down the computer. For example if the computer gets busy reading or writing a file while it’s also trying to play the audio stream, there could be brief gaps in the stream being played to the TU.

There is software available that you can run to identify latency issues. The one I use is called DPC Latency Checker, freeware at http://www.thesycon.de/eng/latency_check.shtml. The utility displays bar graphs of measured latency over time. If consistently green, then all is well. But if occasionally there is a red bar, then that means the latency could cause a gap in audio playback. That means some other applications or processes are stealing time on the processor, and you would have to experiment with shutting down unnecessary apps. Unfortunately it doesn’t tell you which app, but the task manager could give a clue.

Latency is a well known problem for people who are MARS operators using the new MS-110a modem software developed by Steve N2CKH.

Hope this helps.
