[GreenKeys] Avarda ITTY Feed / StayShift-On-Space

While the computers don't seem to care, the mechanical machines do.

Years ago I put together an 8080 processor board and set it up for a dumb
terminal for rtty. This was before the IBM/MSDOS type of computers. I tried
to set it for the worst case. After every shift up or down for figs or
letters I forced a shift so the next letter or number would be in the
correct case. That took care of the machines that down shift on space. At
the end of a line It would send CR CR LF Ltrs. That gives a slow carriage
time to get back. If I typed in over 65 characters it would send the end of
line sequence at the next space. At 72 characters on one line,it would do
a hard end of line sequence. For the upper case J and S it would send both
so a you got a bell and ' .

GM OMs;

*The 28-RO is set for stay-shift because of some of the stuff I print.)

o When I got started on RTTY, I didn't know what "that" was all about.
After a QSO I got on the land-line and spoke to one of the guys
about it. When he explained it, and how to send so that both types
of machines would be OK, I started following the procedure.

When GLASS came out, and I tried to explain that - AND - the concept
of setting up a CR/LF for heavy metal, "they couldn't be bothered"
to open their owner's manual and find out how to set things up. And
the "you're the only one who every complained about it" kinda put the
   icing on the cake.

After a few QSOs with glass machines, I gave up. Yes, - I know that
there are glass-ops here, but they've set up their computers so that
they can handle the different types of set up.
